Durable Objects vs a small realtime server
Comparison · lambda
The chat model assumes hibernation, so duration stays cheap and requests do not.
Competitor dollar amounts are unverified. This page calculates Cloudflare only and links the other price list. Do not quote a vendor price from memory.
Messages are RPC or WebSocket billing events on the room object. Hibernation is assumed, so duration stays at 10,000 GB-s while requests hit 4 million.
A VM or a Lambda billed by wall time will look different the moment a socket stays open. Durable Objects bill that only while the object cannot hibernate.
The competitor's realtime price is unverified. The Cloudflare request and duration lines below are not.
Each RPC session is a request
Paid Durable Objects include 1 million requests and then charge $0.15 per million. The page rounds every compute dimension up to the next billing unit and demonstrates it for GB-s. Request rounding to 1 million is applied here as an inference from that rule.

$5.45 · Paid
The $5 is an account minimum for Workers Paid, not a per-product fee. Included usage sits inside it.
4,000,000 used, 1,000,000 included. 3,000,000 billable, rounded up to 3,000,000. Exact charge $0.45, shown as $0.45. Paid Durable Object requests include HTTP, RPC sessions, WebSocket billing messages, and alarms. 1 million are included, then $0.15 per million. Billable requests round up to the next million. Cloudflare's own Example 1 bills 500,000 billable requests as 1 million, $0.15.
Assumptions
- A 30-day month and steady traffic across it.
- Rates as published on 2026-10-25; taxes excluded.
- The Workers Paid plan has a $5 monthly minimum. It is charged even if you use nothing, and it covers the included allowances.
- Durable Object requests adds $0.45 (8% of the bill): you used more than the 1,000,000 included.
